Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral conscious sedation is great for those who are scared of needles or experience mild to moderate dental fear. Before your appointment, our team will prescribe you a pill, usually in the diazepam (Valium®) family. You’ll take it before you arrive or as soon as you reach our office, and within about 30 minutes, you’ll notice its calming effects. Because the medication can linger for several hours, it’s important to have a trusted friend or family member drop you off and pick you up from our office.
IV Sedation
Similar to oral conscious sedation, IV sedation has lasting effects, requiring you to arrange a ride to and from our office. We typically recommend this method of sedation for those undergoing oral surgery or more extensive and lengthy procedures. While you remain conscious in the treatment chair, you likely won’t remember much from your visit itself, which is great for those who have severe dental phobia.
